Diane 35 Tablet – Detailed Description
Diane 35 Tablet is a prescription medication that combines two hormones: cyproterone acetate (an anti-androgen) and ethinylestradiol (a synthetic estrogen). This unique combination is primarily used to treat hormonal disorders in women, especially those associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). It also acts as an oral contraceptive, meaning it prevents pregnancy when taken correctly.
Uses of Diane 35 Tablet
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Diane 35 helps manage various symptoms of PCOS, such as:Acne caused by excess androgen levels
Hirsutism (excessive hair growth, especially on the face, chest, or back)
Irregular menstrual cycles due to hormonal imbalance
Hormonal Acne
It is often prescribed when acne is resistant to typical treatments, particularly if caused by hormonal fluctuations.Contraceptive
Diane 35 also serves as a birth control pill, preventing ovulation and thus reducing the chances of pregnancy.
How It Works
Cyproterone acetate blocks the effects of androgens (male hormones), which are often elevated in women with PCOS. This helps reduce acne and unwanted hair growth.
Ethinylestradiol regulates the menstrual cycle and stabilizes hormone levels, providing an estrogen component that enhances the anti-androgenic effect.
Together, these hormones restore hormonal balance, regulate periods, and reduce PCOS-related symptoms while also providing contraceptive protection.
Important Guidelines
Do not take any other contraceptive pills while on Diane 35, as it already provides full contraceptive protection.
It should be taken once daily, ideally at the same time each day, for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day pill-free interval during which you may experience a withdrawal bleed (similar to a period).
Start only under medical supervision. Your doctor may ask for blood tests or an evaluation of your medical history to ensure this pill is safe for you.
